Global Women's Electronic Networking Training Workshop

Global WENT 99 is being hosted by Asian Pacific Women's Information Network Center at Sookmyung Women's University, in Seoul, South Korea from September 27th to October 2nd 1999.

The workshop is being organised by the Global WomenAction Network and sponsored by Womenwatch.

General Objectives:

  • To build the WomenAction Network through training, sharing skills and strategizing in online facilitation skills and website construction of regional network representatives.
  • To develop midterm and long term objectives and strategies for the global section J review and the continuance of the global electronic information and communication campaign for the Beijing plus five review.

Specific Objectives:

  • To train/share skills with regional network representatives in online working group facilitation focusing on BPFA critical areas of concern
  • To focus specifically on planning for an online working group strategy (regional and global) for discussions focussing on the Women and Media Chapter
  • To provide a space for planning lobbying and advocacy actions for policy interventions related to the Women and Media Chapter (including CSW and general assembly interventions)
  • To train/share skills with national/regional/thematic website managers so that they can construct regional websites, develop criteria for uploading alternative country reports, articles, events and other Beijing + 5 related information from within their regions, and develop methodology for sharing this with other WomenAction regional and global websites
  • To provide a space for national/regional/thematic website managers to learn about 'advanced' tools and applications they can use in development of their own sites
  • To provide a space for national/regional/thematic website managers to strategize, collaborate, share experience, tools, tips and expertise with a view to developing a long term strategy for the WomenAction global website
  • To provide a space for strategizing around linkages with other women's media networks (radio/print) and strategic alliances with networks such as Womenwatch, CONGO, etc.
  • To provide a space for the steering committee to plan for future actions
  • To ensure monitoring and evaluation of the workshop so that we can refine our work to support women's needs, and document and share our experiences and lessons learned so that they can continue to serve the women's movement.
