A 9-day arts installation, part of Ars Electronica Festival ‘Sound Drifting’ (16 simultaneous web-based netcast projects)

Shopfront used to screen video, animated website and ambient, generative sound. Posters and postcards were distributed. Website updated daily with new animations/pictures from feedback to installation, also contained Flash rollover to trigger sound loops. Content based on indigenous people’s struggle in Sarawak. Provided some printed information about Sarawak people, noticed a lot of passing pedestrians reading it. Example of cultural project used to convey political information.

sending or receiving?

sending you need a plugin for winamp plus the right codec on your computer.

you also need access to a shoutcast mp3 streaming server. in most cases,

the codec will need to be installed (if you're using a PC and 95/98/NT)

with msofts media player.

receiving is easy. you just put the server address in the "play location"

field found under the options menu. if you have an older version of winamp

you'll need to install a plugin.

more instructions are available from either website.

running your own mp3 streaming server is possible, but be aware of the

amount of bandwith it can consume. 40 simlutaneous connections can flood a T1.

you can also receive mp3 streams with real networks G2 player, although

i've not had much success with it.
